  Helen Turner Penland                     (1931 - 2018)
  Asheville, NC......Helen Elizabeth Turner Penland, age 87, died Saturday morning, October      28, 2018, in the Pisgah Manor Health Care Center of Pisgah Valley, a continuing care   
  retirement community in Candler, NC.   Helen was born at home in Campobello, SC, on     July  17, 1931 to Donald Goodman Turner and Maude Estelle Camp and lived in   Spartanburg, SC.   She graduated from Lee Howard High school in Asheville in 1949 and   from Mars Hill College in 1951, where she received an Associate Degree in Arts.   During high school, Helen met the love of her life, Talmage Newton Penland of West Asheville, NC and married him March 18, 1951 at the West Asheville Baptist Church.  In 1954, Helen gave birth to their eldest daughter, Rebecca "Becky" and in 1956 to daughter Cindy "Cricket".   She and her family were active members of the West Asheville Baptist Church where Helen taught Sunday School and sang in the choir with her husband.  Later, she and Talmage were blessed with two more children, Danny and Diana  Penland.  Helen was a devoted daughter who cared tirelessly for her aging parents.   She was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia "Cricket" Penland Trisdale.   Helen is survived by her husband of 67 years, Talmage Newton Penland, who currently resides at Pisgah Valley Retirement Center;  her sister, Marjorie Inez Turner Davis of Marietta, GA;  her daughter Rebecca Penland McCurry and husband Elvis, of Black Mountain, NC;   son, Daniel James Penland and wife Dottie of Asheville;  daughter, Diana Penland Allison and husband, Dennis of Gaffney, SC;  grandchildren, Allison Carolina Fulkerson and husband Ben, of Bethpage, TN;  and great grandchildren, Gavin Penland, Kierman Penland, Solara Penland, Christian Allison, Haley Allison, Ricky Allison, Kelly Allison, Cody Allison, Kira Noble, Kolby Noble, Rose Fulkerson and Rhett Fulkerson.  [NOTE:  Talmage was a founding member of the Penland Historical Society, Inc.]

Patricia Ann Penland                  (1932-2018)
Patricia Ann Penland, age 86, of Fort Walton Beach/Destin, Florida passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday November 1, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona.  Patricia was born April 15, 1932 in Portsmouth, England.  She lived in the Fort Walton Beach/Destin area from 1963 - 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, MSgt Roy Eugene Penland in 1995.  She is survived by her daughter, Theresa L. Penland, son, Mark E. Penland;  grandchildren, Marek Penland and Marisa Penland.  Burial was in the Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.

Sally B. Penland                           (1934 - 2018)
Sally B. Penland, age 84, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in West Virginia on March 18, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Shannon and Beulah (Brown) O'Donnell.  Sally dedicated her life to her family as a talented homemaker.   Above all, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend to many.  In addition to her parents, Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd L. "Monk" Penland;  her sister, Lula Robinson.  She is survived by her children, Kenneth Penland (Patricia) of New Castle, Linda McNatt (John) of Newark, Ricky Penland (Diane) of Bear, Lloyd Ray Penland (Karen) of Bear and Robert Penland (Tonya) of New Castle;  siblings, Lawrence O'Donnell, Bud O'Donnell and Lucy Hodges, all of West Virginia and Norma Zonar of Delaware;  14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Margaret Ruth (Penland) Stroup               (1932 - 2018)
Margaret Ruth Stroup, 86, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Physical Rehab & Wellness Center, Spartanburg, SC. Mrs. Stroup was born in Kingsport, TN on October 4, 1932 and was the daughter of the late Avery Homer and Mable Cora Kite Penland.  She was the widow of Harold William Stroup.  She had retired from textiles and was of the Baptist faith.  She is survived by four sisters:  Virginia O'Shield of Greenville, SC, Ruby Smith of Campobello, SC, Shirley Westbrook of Cherokee Springs, SC, Linda Gail Hayes and her husband James of Spartanburg and a number of nieces and nephews.   Margaret was predeceased by a daughter, Judy Ann Elder and a sister, Betty Hall.

Norma Jean (Penland) Dorman Souers     (1943 - 2018)
Norma Jean (Penland) Dorman Souers, 75, of Ludington passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2018.  She was born May 25, 1943 in Three Oaks, Michigan to Ralph and Violet (Anderson) Penland.  Norma worked many places, but she retired from Baywood where she worked in the kitchen.  In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo and reading, especially Steven King and James Patterson.  Norma is survived by her children, Adam (Terri) Dorman, Troy (Lisa Williams) Dorman, Matthew (Tammy Cole) Dorman, and Shauna (Francisco Rojo Trejo) Souers;  her sisters, Carol Christopher, Mary Ellen Colyer, and Doris Anthony;  numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.  Besides her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph (Sonny) Penland and Roy Penland, and her daughter Jacqueline Fay Dorman.

Edwin Ambrose Penland                       (1930 - 2018)
Edwin Ambrose Penland of Newark, Ohio passed away Friday October 26, 2018 at Newark Care and Rehab.  He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, a son of the late Alvin E. and Florence (Cowles) Penland.  On May 28th, 1955, he married Janet Penland, in Newark, Ohio.  His many passions were his lovely wife, restoring old cars, playing cards with family, listening to music, and reading history books.  He traveled the states driving trucks, enjoying the people he met and viewing the great beauty that surrounded him.  H/e lived a humble life providing for his family, opening his home to anyone in need sharing his voice in song, telling stories and reciting limericks like none other.   He encouraged and empowered his children      to do great things.  Edwin will be greatly missed by all that knew him.  Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Gail Preston, Laurie Penland, Ramona (Barry)Penland-Coyle, Tiffany (Adam) Walters and sons, Michael (Gina) Penland, Robert Penland and Edwin Penland, Jr.; brother, Robert C. Penland, sisters:  Edna Mae Carlton and F. Ellen Flores;  18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
