  Randall "Shorty" Penland, age 49, was fatally struck on Highway 64, east of Hayesville, NC, in the Shooting Creek area during the early morning hours of November 16, 2018.  It was a 'hit & run' event.  An arrest of a Hayesville resident  for the crime was made on April 26, 2019.   Randall was born on 30 June, 1969 and was a resident of Georgia at the time of his death.

   Marilee Keener Penland     (1926 - 2019)
Candler, N. C. .......  Marilee Keener Penland, 93, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at the Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation and Care Center.   An Asheville native, Marilee was a daughter of the late Samuel Herbert and Artie Jones Keener.  She was also preceded in death by her Husband, Richard Charles Penland, and her sister, Roxie Brinkley.  Marilee is survived by her caregivers and niece, Barbara Brown and husband Richard;  step-son, Ken Jones and wife Nan and their children, Timothy and Jeanette, whom were all like family to Marilee;  five nieces, five nephews, and numerous great-nieces and nephews

  Jimmie Nell Penland           (1943 - 2019)
Jimmie Nell Penland, age 75, surrounded by love, passed away peacefully June 7, 2019 after a long fight with Alzheimer's.   She was born on December 8, 1943 to Eva Shuemake Adams in rural Dallas County, Texas.  Born the last of nine children to a recently widowed woman, Jimmie was named 'Jimmie'  after her father, Benjamin "Jim", who died prior to her birth. Her mother's grief and financial status caused Jimmie to spend her first five years of her life with an Aunt.  At age 14 Jimmie lived with her grown siblings until at 17 she married Jack Edwards. Later, after divorcing, she married Shannon Penland.  Between them they had seven children to raise.  As her children were all leaving home as adults, she decided to re-enter high school in order to become a licensed daycare director.  She was most proud of this accomplishment.  She loved children and helping them to learn and grow up to be good citizens.  She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Shannon Penland, plus several other family members including grandsons, Chance Penland and Gage Edwards, and granddaughter Tiffany Ash. Jimmie is survived by her siblings, David Adams and J/B Adams, children, Wesley/Kathy Edwards, Tommy & Eddie Edwards, Dana Evans, David Penland, Patricia (Penland)/Amy Ashton, Roxanne Penland, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.   Her love and sense of humor lives on in the hearts and lives of her family.

Amy Kelley Penland             (1953 - 2019) 
Canton, N.C..... Amy Kelley Penland, 66, of Canton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, to her Eternal Home in Heaven following a courageous battle with cancer. She was a wonderful wife (and pastor's wife), mother and grandmother. Amy was born February 19, 1953, in Eden, NC, a daughter of the late Martin and Lucille Kelley. She was a graduate of Morehead high School (Eden, NC), and was an honor student at UNC-Greensboro, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees.  She was a faithful and much loved daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, niece and cousin.   She was a committed follower of Jesus Christ, a devoted pastor's wife of 37 years, and dedicated church member serving in many leadership positions of every church where her husband served as pastor.  Left to cherish her memory and Christian testimony is her husband of almost 40 years, Reverend Terry W. Penland;  daughter, Hannah Trapp and husband Lee;  son, Andrew Penland and wife Katie;  sisters, Kathryn Cliborne and husband Kenneth "Kempy," and Nancy Reid;  brother, James A. Kelley;  grandchildren, Sophia Trapp, Vincent Trapp, and Adeline Lucille Penland; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and many cherished friends.

Reverend Terry Wayne Penland  (1953-2019)
The Rev. Terry Wayne Penland, 65, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2019, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.  Terry was born on September 5, 1953, in Buncombe County, to Walter Calvin Penland and Kathryn Crabtree Penland, both now deceased.   He lived in the Enka-Candler area, graduated from Enka High School in 1971, and grew up in the Mount Moriah Wesleyan Church in Candler.  In his youth, Terry felt a strong call to enter full time Christian ministry, and graduated from Central Wesleyan College in 1976.  He also attained his Wesleyan Church Conference license that same year.  He served as pastor of the Sandy Cross Wesleyan Church from 1976 - 1979.  He went on to serve as pastor at Statesville Northview Wesleyan (1982-1989), Rock Hill Wesleyan (1989-1994), Concord Wesleyan (1994-2002), and Canton Wesleyan (2002-2016).  In addition to his wife and parents, Terry was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Christopher Penland.  He is survived by his sister, Kathey Y. Penland, of Brighton, Colorado;  his two children, Andrew Penland (Katie), of Cullowee, and Hannah Trapp (Lee), of Matthews;  as well as three grandchildren: Adeline Penland, Vincent Trapp, and Sophia Trapp.  He also leaves behind several beloved members of his extended family.
