  Richard (Dick) D. Penland               (1932 - 2017)
  Auburn, IN............Richard D. Penland, 84 passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 at his
   home in Auburn.   He was born October 1932 in Pleasant Lake to Roscoe and Erma
   (Rohm) Penland.   Dick served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War;  he retired from
   the Auburn Post Office after 36 years.   He also retired as an Insurance Agent for DeKalb
   Farm Mutual in Auburn with 21 years of service.   He was a member of the Immaculate
   Conception Catholic Church in Auburn.   He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign
   Wars.   He belonged to the Auburn American Legion Post 97 and was a part time farmer for
   20 years.   Dick married Ann Catherine Ellert on October 18, 1952 in St. Michaels Catholic
   Church in Waterloo and survives in Auburn.   Also surviving are 4 sons Michael Penland
   and his wife Sabine' of Auburn, Jeffery Penland and his wife Jeanne of Waterloo, Eric
   Penland  and his wife Cindy of New Albany and his wife Misheila of Aubun;  A daughter in
   law, Deb Penland of Auburn;   11 grandchildren, Spencer Penland, Stacy (Nate) Tatman,
  Jessica Penland, Jami (Jeff) Hicov, Kristy (Adam) Dibble, Craig (Cassie Yarian) Penland, 
  Zachary Penland, Kevin (Ellie) Penland, Jason Penland, Al Wilson, Bruce Wilson and 8
  great grandchildren;  a brother Lynn R. Penland of Sheridan, Wyoming and a sister June
  Hauer of Angola.   He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Dennis Penland and a
  granddaughter Kasey Penland.   Burial was in the Auburn Catholic Cemetery.

  Paul Lee  Penland                    (1925 - 2017)
  Paul Lee Penland, formerly of Lenoir, NC, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2017.
  Mr. Penland was born in Asheville, NC on December 26, 1925, the son of Charles Nelson
  and Bertha Mae Kitchens Penland.   He grew up in a large and loving family and was 
  educated in the Buncombe County School system having graduated from the Plonk
  School   of creative arts.   Mr. Penland served his country in the U.S. Army   from 1944
  through 1946,   serving at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC and various stations in the 
  European Theater during World War II.  Mr. Penland returned to Ashville where he
  married Velda Lenora Pressley on September 18, 1955.   He later moved to Lenoir, NC
  in 1961 having begun a career with Southern Bell (BellSouth/AT&T).   Upon his retirement,      he worked as an independent consulting engineer and later with his friend and confidant,
  R. L. 'Rooster' Bush.   All the while, Mr. Penland continued his long-term relationship as a
  volunteer and in   various leadership roles with the Telephone Pioneers of America.   A
  devoted member for many years of First Methodist Church of Lenoir, Mr. Penland
  volunteered and served there in numerous capacities, with a special fondess for the Men's
  Breakfast gatherings.   Mr. Penland's family & friends will remember him as a man who
  never met a strange, was slow to admonish and quick to forgive, and was a fiercely loyal
  friend to his numerous brothers and sisters.

  Mr. Penland is survived by his wife, Velda, with whom he recently celebrated their sixty-first   wedding anniversary;  his brother, Garrett Eugene Penland of Ashville;  his sister, Modena    Penland Brown of Chattanooga, TN;  his children and their spouses who include Deborah      Penland Morrison and her husband, McDonald "Mack" Morrison, Jr. of Raleigh, NC;      
  Michael Eugene Penland and his wife, Rebecca Duffie Penland of Columbia , SC, and      
Tracehy Nelson Penland and his wife, Michele Picard Penland of Hereford, AZ.   Mr. Penland
  is also survived by his five grandchildren, Sarah Katherine Morrison, Caroline Lansing  
  Penland, Anna Pressley Penland, Lauren Nicole Penland and Haley Marie Penland, as well     as numerous nieces & nephews.   Mr. Penland was predeceased by his siblings, James,    
Johnnie, Bill and Jackie Penland, Blanche Penland Pruett and Evelyn Penland Blau.

  Robert  Dale Penland                    ( unk - 7 January, 2017)
Lexington, KY....... Robert Dale Penland, passed away Saturday, "January 7, 2017 at UK 
  Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby P. and
  Patsy J. Penland and is survived by one son, Brian Keith Penland;  siblings, Sheila, Mark,
  Randy and Daryl;  special friends, Malvin, Dennis, Bob and Diane, as well as numerous
  extended family.

  Aaron  Brown  Penland, Jr.            (1943 - 2016)  
  Bay City, Texas............Aaron Brown Penland, Jr., 76, of Bay City passed away December
  27, 2016.   He was born January 6, 1943 in Mineral Wells, Texas to the late Aaron Brown
  Penland, Sr. and Margurite Irene Dabelgott Penland.   He was a graduate of Texas A & M
  College, being the last graduating class before it became Texas A & M University.   He
  proudly served his country as a member of the U,S, Army during the Vietnam War.   Aaron
  was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Penland.   Survivors include his wife Sybella
  Marilyn Penland;  daughters Karen Conroy & husband Pat of Huntsville and Aimee Guidry
  of Kingwood;  son Andy Penland & his wife Courtney of Kingwood;  sisters Carole Commo
  of Houston and Susie Genck of New York;  brother Bob Penland  and grandchildren Cody
  Conroy, Cassidy Conroy, J. P. Pruett and Joshua Penland.  {Interment was in the Hawley

  Robert (Bob) Vernon Penland          (1928 - 2017)
Leicester, NC.................Robert Vernon Penland, 88, of Leicester was welcomed into the
  arms of his Savior on Thursday, March 2, 2017.   Bob was born August 25, 1928 and
  married Virginia Pauline Sharpe on May 10, 1947.   Pauline remained a faithful
  companion to the end.   He was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1954 and pastored
  many area churches.   He also preached on three area radio stations.   Bob was a
  longtime faithful member of Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church and never failed to
  let his light shine, witnessing to many wherever he went.   He was preceded in death by
  his parents, Reggie and Lila Shepherd Penland, son, W. Creed Penland, Sr.;  brothers,
  Grover, Creed, Troy, Huelon and Leonard Penland;  sisters, Ruth Penland, Dollie
  Crabtree and Paris Rocket, and great-granddaughter, Kori Penland
  Bob is survived  by his wife, Pauline, son, Donald Penland;  grandchildren, Rebecca
  (who he took in as his own child), Lila, William and Brian Penland and Leah Brumeloe;
  great-grandchildren, Bobbie and Tyler Messer, Ivory Brumeloe, Gabriel, Alyson and
  Kerry Penland and great great-grandchildren, Ryder Messer, Wilbur, Lula and Julyssa
  Sequoyah and Asher Ivery;  sisters, Ivery Parham and Marjorie Robinson.

Harold Glen Penland                         (1936 - 2017)
Harold Glen Penland, 80. of Burnsville, NC went home, Tuesday, March 21, 2017.   A
  native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Glen and Jessie Robinson Penland.  
  He was also preceded in death by an infant brother and twin grandsons.   He was an
  U.S. Army Veteran.   Harold was a retired employee of the N.C.DMV as a Schoo;l Bus
  Driver Trainer.   Harold's love was making music and attending church.   Surviving are
  his wife: Kathy Scott Penland;  a daughter, Pamela Ann Kaylor and husband, Eric of
  Hudson;  2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren;  2 sisters:  Lois Westall and
  husband, Glen of Burnsville and Louise Robinson and husband, Ray of Weaverville;  3
  brothers:  Clayborne Penland and wife Wilma, Maurice Penland and wife Wanda, and
  Jerry Penland and wife, Geraldine all of Burnsville;  Nieces and Nephews also survive.

  Hazel Irene Penland                         (1940 - 2017)  
  Asheville............Hazel Irene Ward Penland, 76, of Asheville went to be with her Lord on
  Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center.   A lifelong resident
  of Buncombe County, she had retired from Great Smokies Hilton Inn and was a member
  of Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville.  Mrs. Penland was the daughter of the late Hilliard
  David Ward and Grace Helen McGee Brown and was the wife of Lawrence Wesley
  Penland who died January 3, 2008.   She was also preceded in death by her son, Terry
  Wesley Penland who died July 3, 1989 and her brother, Hilliard Vestal Ward who died
  May, 23, 2008.   Surviving are her grandaughter, Tabitha Krystal Penland and a great
  grandson, ZyKarl Demarco Penland both of the home;  and sister in law Ruby Parker
  Ward of Asheville.

  Kimberly  Penland                       (1960 - 2017) 
  Kimberly Penland, age 46, of the Pensacola Community, went home to be with the Lord
   on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.   A native of
   Yancey County, she was a daughter of Dean and Mozelle Laws Penland.   Kim was a
   member of Laurel Branch Baptist  Church, active member of the Pensacola Fire
   Department and was a teacher's assistant throughout the Yancey County school
   system for many years.   Kim will always be remembered for her sweet infictious smile
   and her love of horses, being active in her community and being a loving and
   wonderful daughter, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her.   Left to
   cherish her memories are her parents:  Dean and Mozelle Penland, grandmother Clara
   "Granny" Penland of Pensacola;  her two daughters:  Stormy Riddle and husband,
   Casey Chandler, of Bald Creek and Montana Riddle and husband, Jordan Whitson, of
   Pensacola;  grandson, Lane Chandler;  brothers:  Mike Penland and wife, Karen and
   Kevin Penland and companion, Heather Anders, all of Pensacola.   Several other
   extended family members and a host of friends survive.

  Martha Penland Devore                 (   ?   -  2017)
Martha Penland Devore of Kinards, SC died unexpectedly on Thursday, 16 March 2017.
  Sbhe was born in Laurens, SC and was the daughter of Hubert and Helen Penland.
  Martha was retired from Unifor Brass Forgings, and was an inactive member of the
  Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church.   She was a graduate of Laurens High School and
  Limestone College, a member of Old 96 A Model Club, a member of the South Carolina
  Callers Association as a line dance instructor, and a member of the Limestone Alumni
  Association.   She is survived by her husband, Donald Devore of the home, her
  daughter, Leigh Devore Smith, and her husband Marty, of Spartanburg';  her two
  grandsons, Hunter and Hayden Smith; one brother, Nickie Penland (Linda);  two sisters,
  Carolyn Riddle (Billy), and Lucy Crowder.   She is also survived by 4 nephews and a
  niece.   In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a brother, Lewis Penland and
  a son, Larry Penland, (Lynda.)
